Fascinating, Entertaining, Educational and Inspiring.

This book isn't just a story of one label or one person, but its holds valuable lessons in both life in general and in the music scene. If you're into Hardcore or D&B or any EDM genre, this is well worth a read as it follows the path of one person negotiating the genre's and adapting to the styles quickly changing and becoming more defined. What I found fascinating was that Luna-C was able to describe and explain what went right and what went wrong when he reached the height of success, to the lows of bankruptcy. Very inspiring, well written and entertaining. 5 star's from me, and 100% recommended.

A fantastic time travel guided by a true insider of the scene...

...i loved it. And I was sceptic before. Would this guy really be able to write a book? Fill page per page with structured information and stories? I "knew" him much more for chaotic sounds, music that made my neighbours go berzerk, my pets trying to escape into the bright light at tunnels end and me fall in love with a music that still burns in my heart. This lunatic guy as author? But there is always two sides of the medal and of each person. Chris aka Luna-C really opened his heart and wrote a very interesting book that invites anyone out there to get back into the oldschool days (some say better days) and to accompany him on his freaky, funny but also sometimes disturbing and for sure depressing way into and out of the scene. From underground to the top riding the rollercoaster and sharing the headache all those rides caused lately.

Its witty, its honest and you notice it all came deep from the soul - waiting for years to be written down finally. And yes, this guy really has to tell a lot! I enjoyed that ride very much, remembering my trips from germany to the uk just for getting the newest records from my beloved breakbeat artists. I even had the chance meeting some of the record stores Chris talks about in his book, as collector all label names as well as artists who appear in the book sounded very familiar to me. It was great to get that "backstage insight" and see what happened behind the scenes.

Those years were such a musical breathrough and there were so many passionate fans out there, I really miss that sometimes. It was wonderful getting so much insights as Chris for sure was the man or guy - and centerpiece of the puzzle of that era. So it was great reading the book, listening to the tracks aside and checking some videos on youtube Chris mentioned. Of course also watching the old videos on youtube of smart e's was a delight when knowing more of the backgrounds. Dig those gloves buddy!!! I cried tears of laughter reading your lines concerning the wacky video performances you had to do. Still makes my day!

What I worship the most is that Chris, as everyone in the commerical music scene has not always been treated well, nevertheless there is not the slightest tone of bitterness in or between the lines. There were people stealing ideas or ripping of the band, but even the bad guys must not fear the book. Chris has a wonderful and very fair way to treat his surroundings of the past, no one will be blamed, in contrary Chris has an almost wise way of seeing things: The good as the bad things that happened finally had a right to happen as they were necessary for the "KNITEFORCE (R)EVOLUTION" as well as for the personal development.

My english may not be the best, nevertheless I read the book within hours in one sequence as I could not stop. I now feel even closer to the scene and besides there is always a bit sorrow about the past, the good thays that have gone - I am nevertheless very happy due to the fact this guy is still producing amazing tunes, doing fantastic mixes and podcasts. So the "party has not ened yet","the fire keeps on burning" and everything still should and will be played at high volume. Good news for me, bad news for my neighbours and pets, but well, get used to it! I wont change my musical altitude cause this is a big part of my life and love. 5 stars for an authentic, interesting and wonderful book. If you liked the era, you`ll love the story!

How Not To Squander Your Writing Ability

Having known Chris since early 2004, I have been well aware of the fact that he is articulate, funny, and extremely witty for some time. So when I had first heard about this project I had no doubts it would turn out great.

I am happy to say not only was I not wrong, but he exceeded all my expectations.

The book itself is extremely well written, making extremely good use of a very Douglas Adams-esque writing style. It's funny, witty, and reads much more like the words of a person speaking, which I find very enjoyable, especially for a biographical type of book.

The content itself is extremely informative, shedding light on years of electronic music history that unless you found someone who was actually around then and picked their brain, most people would never even hear about. But that's not all. Some of the intricacies (and foibles) of writing music during that time period are discussed, what it takes to start up a record label (hint: A LOT OF WORK), all manner of topics that electronic music fans will find infinitely interesting.

But this is not just a book for the EDM aficionado. Oh no. When I first received my copy, my mother (whose exposure to electronic music pretty much extends to what I've played when she's around and that's it) picked it up, read the first few pages, and then stole the book and wouldn't give it back until she was finished.

And loved every word of it. In fact, she's currently reading it again right now.

This is most certainly not just a book for fans of hardcore music, or electronic music in general. Anyone can pick it up and enjoy it. Just ask my mom. Shouldn't be too hard, there's a quote from her on the book. =)

Storytelling not writing

There are very few times that I can give a debut author a 5 star rating. It takes most authors time, experience, heartache and hundreds of re-writes to get to a solid book. Then you quietly stumble across a born storyteller. That's right, storyteller NOT writer. They create the story you feel part of. Character bios? Yes, but somehow you must have already known these characters. Backstory? Yes, but it flows naturally and the reader seems to be part of it. Plot building? Yes, but that should happen next...it's what the I (the reader) would have done too. Cliffhanger? Moan!, but yes, I'm committed enough to wait. That commitment is saying a lot from me (this reader). I've given up on (grown apart from) so many series waiting for the next installment. I won't on this one! There's absolutely NO WAY I can go on with life without reading more. Also, I don't usually re-read books! There are too many new books out there waiting. BUT DON'T BE SURPRISED if you hear about me re-reading this one...it holds so much that I figure a second dose would be just as magical. PS #CoverSnob It's that cover appealing? You bet your *** it is!

Fantastic, five-star fantasy!

The Snow Globe (The Winterhaven Chronicles Book 1) Jenna Nelson

Set in 1875 London, Sondrine Renfrew works at her Aunt's apothecary and antique shop. One day a stranger appears and wants to trade a beautiful snow globe for medicine, she accepts.

Then she fins out her Aunt wants her to marry a wealthy (strange) man. Sondrine is upset and decides to run away. but she finds herself in a strange land, Winterhaven. She meets Shan and realizes he sold her the snow globe and this was all planned.

Sondrine finds her destiny is to overpower the Queen who wants to destroy Winterhaven, if she refuses she will be beheaded. This will not be an easy task, for she learns the Queen is immortal.

Sondrine is very likable, she is frustrated with her life, then finds herself in danger and on a mission she can't refuse. The story is very original, the characters are well developed, the attention to detail bring you into the story.

I really enjoyed The Snow Globe and feel those who love a great fantasy will enjoy it as well. A true five-star read! The cover is beautiful, and captures Winterhaven perfectly.

A colorful, magical, and spellbinding journey

I must admit: this is the first fantasy novel I’ve ever read. This isn’t my genre. So why did I choose to read it? Well, I’ve had a love of snow globes all of my life because I have always been mesmerized by what appeared to be an enchanting world inside of them, a glorious escape from the life’s tough realities. When I saw this beautiful cover and read the synopsis, I was intrigued.

The Snow Globe exceeded my expectations. Jenna Nelson is a superb wordsmith. From the very first page, I was captivated by Sondrine Renfrew’s life—working in her aunt’s apothecary and antique shop in Victorian London. My initial fascination for this story never left me, but I did learn that anything can and will happen in the world inside the snow globe—and it isn't always pretty!

I don’t like writing reviews that are mere synopses. The synopsis above gives a wonderful overview of the book. What I do like to write about is how I feel about a book. I loved it! This author is a brilliant wordsmith. Her words flow effortlessly, the scenes she describes come to life in my mind’s eye, her characterizations are distinct, and her humor is wonderfully placed throughout. The story completely engaged me; it was not only insanely imaginative, but brought one delightful surprise after another. It was a true joy to read and without a doubt, I will read the sequel to this book when it comes out. Just really good!

GEOGRAPHY REFRESHER COURSE

I AM 48 YEARS OLD, AND I REALIZED THAT THERE WAS A LOT I LEARNED IN MIDDLE SCHOOL THAT I COULD NOT REMEMBER NOW. THAT IS WHY I BOUGHT THIS BOOK. IT WAS EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED. I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN. READ IT IN A WEEK FROM COVER TO COVER. IT SERVED ITS PURPOSE FOR ME. I WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND IT FOR ANYONE WHO WANTS TO REFRESH THEIR MEMORY OR FOR CHILDREN WHO ARE NOT LEARNING GEOGRAPHY IN SCHOOL.

Stunning Images, Great Information

Geography: A Visual Encyclopedia is another large, hardcover and fully illustrated encyclopedia. This book covers all things geography from the earth's crust to air currents, along with life on earth and country information. The photographs are stunning throughout this fact-filled encyclopedia. I look forward to using this 300 page resource when my children ask about blizzards, dust bowls, the rock cycle, or Zambia. Geography: A Visual Encyclopedia is definitely a book our family will use and enjoy.

A gripping story

Just finished reading Gray Wolves and White Doves by John D Balian. This is pretty amazing stuff. I couldn't put the book down. The writing is so vivid, I could picture myself right in the midst of the action. Full of historical information, suspense, emotion, drama, I would highly recommend this book .

Wonderful historical fiction!

John Balian has created a fantastic work of historical fiction that is both educational and inspiring. The book follows a young boy, Hanna, through the racism and oppression he experiences as an Armenian Turk. From the start, I found myself deeply sympathetic to Hanna's situation, and by the end I had gained a new perspective on the ethnic tensions that affect so many in the region. Dr. Balian's vivid writing style kept me entertained and guessing throughout, and made me feel as if I was right there with the story's many intriguing characters. I know I've read a good book when I don't want it to end - this was certainly the case with Grey Wolves and White Doves! I am eagerly looking forward to the next one.

A "can't put it down" adventure !

Gray Wolves and White Doves by Dr. John Balian is a "can't put it down" adventure/thriller which rivals Billy Hayes's incredible escape from the "gray wolves" in the Academy Award winning 1978 "Midnight Express". Both stories are based on non-fictional events and told through the direct experience and perspective of the authors and occur in the same time frame and geography.

In Balian's story, a young boy overcomes nearly insurmountable odds, oppression and danger through a journey that takes him from the wheat fields of Anatolia, to the birth place of Jesus Christ and finally to salvation and safety. It's a journey that takes a child to manhood packed with experiences that could only be had in a hundred lifetimes.

Upon finishing this book one can only hope for two things; first, like that of Midnight Express, this story gets told in the theatres and second, there is a sequel in the works. This reviewer believes we may have uncovered the next Grisham, Patterson and DeMille!

Erin Aeran Chung is the Charles D. Miller Assistant Professor of East Asian Politics and Co-Director of the Racism, Immigration, and Citizenship (RIC) Program in the Department of Political Science at The Johns Hopkins University. Previously, she was an Advanced Research Fellow at Harvard University's Program on US-Japan Relations and a Japan Foundation Fellow at Saitama University in Urawa, Japan. Her articles on citizenship, noncitizen political engagement, and comparative racial politics have been published in the Du Bois Review and Asian Perspective. In 2009, she was awarded an Abe Fellowship by the Social Science Research Council to conduct research in Japan and Korea for her second book project on immigrant incorporation in ethnic democracies.
