Very tasteful and imaginative.

The book was a purchase due to my love of tattoos and the women they adorn. I was hesitant to purchase but upon reading other reviews and researching Alvarado, I thought why not. I was pleased at the picture quality and the vivacious colours used. The depiction of the female form is tantalising as well as evocative.

Not all the models are covered in tattoos, some merely have one or two small ones. I can appreciate talent in photography and Alvarado definitely knows how to capture innocence and defiance in one swoop. A great addition to any photo collection and worth the money. The book is quite large and captures the tattoos in great detail. A must for those who love tattooed women and who also love the rebellion of the middle class.

The Wonderment of a Beautiful Book

The first thing that meets the eye with this collection is the cover. Many of Alvarado's pin-ups have tattoos, some exquisite, some just plain, but they leave the reader wanting more.

The book is in glossy paper, so the art work is hard to distinguish between photography and illustration. There are over 145 pin-up nudes from pert to busty, the plain to the weirdest, uniforms to head-dresses and more.

Robert Alvarado's photos shows the models in all their beauty, but most of all, they show the creativity of an artist who can use innovative techniques to bring out the beauty of what inspired him to take it in the first place.

What is meditation? Is it a technique that can be practiced? Is it an effort that you have to do? Is it something which the mind can achieve? It is not.

All that the mind can do cannot be meditation. It is something beyond the mind; the mind is absolutely helpless there. The mind cannot penetrate meditation: where mind ends, meditation begins. This has to be remembered, because in our life, whatsoever we do, we do through the mind; whatsoever we achieve, we achieve through the mind. And then when we turn inward we again start thinking in terms of techniques, methods, doings, because the whole of life’s experience shows us that everything can be done by the mind.

Yes, except meditation, everything can be done by the mind. Everything is done by the mind except meditation, because meditation is not an achievement. It is already the case, it is your nature. It has not to be achieved, it has only to be recognized, it has only to be remembered. It is there waiting for you – just a turning in and it is available. You have been carrying it always and always.
Meditation is your intrinsic nature. It is you, it is your being. It has nothing to do with your doings. You cannot have it. You cannot not have it. It cannot be possessed, it is not a thing. It is you, it is your being.

Once you understand what meditation is, things become very clear. Otherwise you can go on groping in the dark.

Meditation is a state of clarity, not a state of mind. Mind is confusion. Mind is never clear, it cannot be. Thoughts create clouds around you, they are subtle clouds. A mist is created by them and the clarity is lost. When thoughts disappear, when there are no more clouds around you, when you are in your simple being-ness, clarity happens. Then you can see far away, then you can see to the very end of existence. Then your gaze becomes penetrating, to the very core of being.

Meditation is clarity, absolute clarity of vision. You cannot think about it. You have to drop thinking. When I say you have to drop thinking, don’t conclude in a hurry. Because I have to use language, so I say, “Drop thinking” – but if you start dropping you will miss, because again you will reduce it to a doing.
“Drop thinking” simply means don’t do anything. Sit. Let thoughts settle themselves. Let mind drop on its own accord. Just sit gazing at the wall in a silent corner, not doing anything at all, relaxed, loose, with no effort, not going anywhere, as if you are falling asleep awake. You are awake and you are relaxing and the whole body is falling into sleep. You remain alert inside and the whole body moves into deep relaxation.

Thoughts settle on their own accord. You need not jump amongst them, you need not try to put them right. It is as if a stream has become muddy: what do you do? Do you jump in it and start helping the stream to become clear? – you will make it more muddy.

You simply sit on the bank. You wait. There is nothing to be done, because whatsoever you do will make the stream more muddy. If somebody has passed through the stream and the dead leaves have surfaced, the mud has arisen, just patience is needed. You simply sit on the bank. Watch indifferently: the stream goes on flowing, the dead leaves will be taken away – and the mud cannot be there forever, it will start settling. After a while, suddenly you will become aware the stream is crystal-clear again.

Whenever a desire passes through your mind, the stream becomes muddy. Just sit. Don’t try to do anything. In Japan this “just sitting” is called zazen – just sitting and doing nothing. And one day meditation happens. Not that you bring it to you, it comes to you. And when it comes, you immediately recognize it. It has always been there but you were not looking in the right direction. The treasure has been with you but you were occupied somewhere else: in thoughts, in desires, in a thousand and one things. You were not interested in only one thing – and that was your own being.

When energy turns in – what Buddha calls paravritti, the coming back of your energy to the source – suddenly clarity is attained. Then you can see clouds a thousand miles away, and then you can hear ancient music in the pines. Then everything is available to you.

Much Wisdom Here

I'm fairly new to the world of Osho, this being the fifth book of his that I have read. But of all wise teachers that I have read - Krishnamurti, ParamahansaYogananda, and others, Osho stands out for me as being the most enlightening. There is a clarity and directness in his words that cuts through all possible ambiguities and reaches into the core of human existence. All of his books are slow reads, but in a good way, because I find myself spending more time putting the book down in order to digest his lessons and assimilating them into my life than I do reading the actual pages. Osho is challenging. You can't come to any of his books clinging to beliefs. You have to come openly, humbly, willing to question all of your own perspectives and assumptions.

Highlights in this book included the following lines:

"This is the difference between a real religious person and a so-called religious person. The so-called religious person always looks to the rule, he always thinks of what is proper and what is not proper. But a really religious person lives it; there is nothing proper and improper for him. Compassion is so infinitely proper that whatsoever you do through compassion automatically becomes proper" (57).

"Each individual has to come to [truth] alone, each individual has to come to it again and again. It can never become available in the market. You will have to pass through the hardship, you will have to seek and search..." (65).

"Truth is independent of all opinions. What you think about truth is irrelevant; in fact, because you think, you will not be able to know what is. That which is can be known only when all thinking stops, when all opinions are thrown away" (154).

I interpret the phrase "ancient music in the pines" as a metaphor for the inner voice, or the voice of God, or the voice of Nature. When one learns to let go of ambition and the desire to achieve, one becomes more quiet within; the mind recedes to the background and the inner voice therefore becomes more audible. Osho insists that one must get in the habit of meditating, of quieting the mind, so that one's life becomes a meditation. He urges us that the only way to move past fear of death is to constantly re-discover the deathless self - the Witness, as he calls it - through meditation. Nor is he dogmatic about meditation techniques. Meditation, he says, is an artless art. It is "your intrinsic nature," he says. "It is you, it is your being. It has nothing to do with your doings" (109).

This book is incredible. Buy it. Read it. Digest it. Live it.

An excelent book, its first edition was in 1977

I read the edition of 1977. The book is the same except that chapters 1 and 2 were changed.
Because the price and the DVD included I will buy this book again.
Really, I can understand ZEN only reading Osho. He is the best.

Osho for me is a translator a dictionary of any doubt you may have, his simplicity, his genious mind and wisdom is incredible. This book is beautifull showing you your ying and yang melting toghether to become one, the reality to become one to surrender in silence to listen to the music in the pines, the existence, your inner sound, your god, the truth, to live fully any experience to accept life the way it is, it is Divine everything is the way it should be dont try to change life but live the present awake and consious like an obserber "Be a withness of your awarness" here and now. Silence is the way to pray, silence is the religion like Zen. Silence is the way to encounter with your heart, your soul, your God. We are the one.
Osho is with no doubt the more clear master that i have ever read and has change my life totally, i started reading him 13 months ago and i cannot stop reading his wisdom every single day i have read 55 of his books in this time and meditating 2 hrs every day no more news in t.v. or traditions or waste of time. Partial cover and misses the best parts of the main text and what it does cover is not to the same standard.

I bought the study guide as companion to the main text "Options as a Strategic Investment" 5th ed.

I am disappointed with the guide as it only covers the spreads covered in the first part of the main text. I wrongly assumed it covered all the chapters in the main text with typical end of chapter type questions and answers. It does not cover any of the mathematical ideas presented in the book i.e. compound Implied volatility, calculating option spread contracts to neutralise specific greeks, stock price movement etc. It also does not cover any of the good discussion on the VIX and volatility hedging strategies nor VIX futures (covered in the main text).

In my mind, it is the second part of the main text that really makes the book worth while and yet the work book does not cover any of it.

The spreads that are covered in the work book, can be studies just as well and for free on the CBOE's website under their education section.

About the Author

John Feehally is Consultant Nephrologist at Leicester General Hospital, and Professor of Renal Medicine at the University of Leicester. His particular clinical interests are in glomerulonephritis and renal transplantation. His major laboratory research programme is in immune renal disease, especially IgA nephropathy. He was President of the UK Renal Association [2004-2007], and is now President of the International Society of Nephrology [2011-2013].


Prof Chris McIntyre graduated in Medicine from Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School (London University). Specialising in renal disease, Dr McIntyre was initially a registrar at University College Hospitals in London prior to becoming a Lecturer in Nephrology at The Royal London Hospitals.

Prof McIntyre leads a team of multidisciplinary researchers focussed largely on the pathophysiology of the widespread abnormalities of cardiovascular function and body composition in chronic kidney disease patients. These studies have increasingly focussed on the adverse consequences resulting from dialysis therapy itself.



J. Stewart Cameron is Emeritus Professor of Renal Medicine Department of Nephrology, Dialysis and Transplantation, King's College London (Guy's Hospital). He was President of the International Society of Nephrology from 1993 to 1995. His interests include the growth and formation of science-based studies
of the kidney from the eighteenth century onwards.

the ultimate history of whole nephrology written by best authors and pioneers in nephrology all over world

No developing country authors were incorporated and a lot of original studies were done from Indian subcontinent by great nephrologists

This is it

The Tribute album is really the only piece of music that has really affected my life. The pure intensity and flow of these live recordings gives me goose bumps every time I listen to it, and that's after I've learned virtually every song. This album is truely a masterpiece. Wolf Marshall does a valiant job transcribing Randy's playing. If you want to learn these songs then this is the best book to do that. Randy's live performances really brought all of his amazing talents together, and no show better illustrates this than the Cleveland 5.11.81 show where the majority of Tribute's songs are taken from. In the studio Randy was great; Live Randy is a legend.

Randy Still Lives!

If you're stone cold bored by today's "music" scene, with an endless parade of whining "woe is me" grunge bands (think Pearl Jam/Nirvana), complaining female wannabe poets (think Jewel), David Cassidy/Osmond Brothers retreads (think N'Sync), and shiftless hillbillies hammering out odes to their pickup trucks (think Garth Brooks), you need to get this book NOW! Plug in, crank the volume, and rock out. Listen to Randy's blistering lead playing, brutally crunching power chords (the guy exuded raw power), and his use of weird 'n' crazy phrasings. The man spoke volumes through his mastery of his instrument. In a day and age when "nerd rock (think Bare Naked Ladies)" and grunge bands eschew learning to actually play their instruments, Randy's deft articulation of complex melodies and harmonies still rules!

A perfect note-for note transcription of one of Randy's performances (in Detroit, I think) on three sides, and one in England for the final side of the album. Including an incredible solo, not like the one Kevin DuBrow "edited" for the Quiet Riot CD, "The Randy Rhoads Years"

Much needed outline of important information

Eric Hansen and UCSF have done a great service to residents in radiation oncology with this book. Each chapter has what they call "pearls" (need-to-know general information) followed by work up, staging and then the studies section. The studies cover the important trials for each disease site with what ends up being perhaps too little editorializing. There are treatment "guidelines" listed by stage. At the end of the book, there is an appendix filled with helpful medications and abbreviations. It's up to date and fits well in the coat pocket. It is most useful if you have a baseline knowledge of the data but even on its own, it's very helpful. Given the lack of similar available books, this is a well done much needed addition.

Highly Recommended Radiation Oncology Handbook

An extremely comprehensive handbook for radiation oncology providing an excellent overview of the individual cancer specific sites as well as references and summaries of appropriate, important and key articles. Dr. Roach and Dr. Hansen in addition to all of the contributing physicians have done an outstanding job providing a thorough yet readable handbook for radiation oncologists.

A Niiice!! There is at last a good "starter" book for students and residents (and even outside specialties) interested in radiation oncology. Other fields have had similar introductory/review books for years, but this has always been lacking in rad onc. As a first-year radiation oncology resident, this book has been invaluable, being extremely "high-yield," yet a quick read for any given topic (much more so than the baby-Perez, and certainly more up to date). Its the first thing I read for a new disease site, before a coming pimp session, or patient presentation. The key papers summarized for each topic are a great place to start when looking for more in-depth reading. The various appendixes, which cover commonly prescribed drugs to tumor markers, are also essential to have for easy access while in clinic. A "must have," certainly before investing time and cash in a major text.

About the Author
Robert A. Baron is the Dean R. Wellington Professor of Management and Professor of Psychology; Ph.D., University of Iowa. He recently completed terms of office as Interim Dean and Interim Director of the Severino Center for Technological Entrepreneurship (2001-2002). Prof. Baron has held faculty appointments at Purdue University, the University of Minnesota, University of Texas, University of South Carolina, University of Washington, and Princeton University. In 1982 he was a Visiting Fellow at Oxford University. He is the author or co-author of more than forty books in the fields of management and psychology, including Behavior in Organizations (8th ed.), Social Psychology (10th ed.).

Scott A. Shane is Professor of Economics and Entrepreneurship at the Weatherhead School of Management at the Case Western Reserve University and Academic Director of the Center for Regional Economic Issues; PhD, University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Shane has held faculty appointments at University of Maryland, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Georgia Institute of Technology. The author of over 50 scholarly articles on entrepreneurship and innovation management, Dr. Shane's work has appeared in Management Science, Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Strategic Management Journal, Decision Science, Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, Journal of Management, Journal of Business Venturing, Journal of International Business Studies, and Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, among other journals. He is currently departmental editor of the R&D, Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Product Development Division of Management Science. His current research examines how entrepreneurs discover and evaluate opportunities, assemble resources, and design organizations. Dr. Shane has consulted to numerous large and small organizations and has taught in executive education programs in Norway, Poland, New Zealand, and the United States. His research has been quoted in The Wall Street Journal, Inc., and Entrepreneur Magazine.

Pretty good basic review

The book provides a good review of available and commonly used hydroponic methods without in-depth detail for any particular approach. This is a good text for someone who's interested in hydroponics but not looking for elaborate dtail on any specific methodology. Good treatment of nutrient addition. The book meets it's objective of showing "how hydroponic systems work".

About the Author
Roxana Waterson studied anthropology at New Hall, Cambridge, earning her Ph.D. in 1981. She has been doing fieldwork with the Sa'dan Toraja people of Sulawesi since 1978, and has traveled widely in Southeast Asia in search of indigenous architectures. Since 1984, she has lived in Singapore where she is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology, National University of Singapore.
