Master storyteller brings the bible up to date

This book is a joy to read and re-read. It is astonishing to hear familiar and unfamiliar bible stories 'read', for that is what he is effectively doing, in an easy modern day style. It makes one want to get out the old bible and compare the two styles. Kossof brings the characters alive in this way and so the impact of their lives is much stronger than in the old bibles, and it makes you realise their stresses and adventures are still the same today.

What EVERYONE Needs

Unbeknownst to most, the use of essential oils is common in the world of European medicine. It's featured in their hospitals and makes its way to the prescription pads of medical doctors. Unfortunately the U.S. gives no credence to the use of essential oils and in an effort to ensure that it has very little chance of ever succeeding as an alternative method for medicine, the U.S. has standards which allow a manufacturer to have only 2% of AN essential oil in the bottle in order to call it "pure." As such, there's a great deal of chicanery practiced in this industry in the U.S. IF you want to learn about medicinal quality essential oils and you really want to know of their proper uses in your life, this is definitely one of those "must have" books. This is literally one of the reference books you could expect to see inside the European hospitals and their medical education programs. It is frequently used as a quick reference.

The vast amounts of testing data and research references in this book alone make it well worth the price.

Get ready for an eye opener that you can actually rely on.

Worth every Dollar.

I have a nice collection of Essential Oils reference books and resources, so thought long and hard before purchasing this book for the price. Serious aficionados, clients, students and researchers get tons of educational value for every dollar spent, including regulatory and cultural practices in global context. Some language challenges pronunciation, but is understood in context or with a quick look-up. The breadth and depth of practice is refreshingly contemporary, with sections discussing essential oils to be used with caution (which, when and why), treatment applications in learning difficulties, mental, and physical considerations from birthing process, elder special needs, and wound care from hospital to palliative care settings. Appendices and glossary of resource websites are rich territory. I'm very pleased with this book, and the editors!

A Book I Can Trust as a Health Professional

It's a good book. British RNs are the authors. Well written. Better than any of the books published by the essential oil companies (and I am a rep for one of those companies :-). Broad in content, covering pregnancy, ICU, massage, etc. Also, broad in its coverage of many oils, both common and rare. Narrow in its scope of research because there's not much research to begin with. Some case studies were very helpful. Others were too small in size and scope to rely on. The tables and charts that are on the CD Rom are helpful, as are the tables and charts in the book itself. It's a nice start to providing and codifying scientifically supported data about essential oils use in the health care environment. As a former medical librarian, I would recommend this book for medical libraries, and probably public library collections as well.

About the Author
Ray Sinnott's varied career, mainly in design and development, began with several major companies including Dupont and John Brown. The main areas covered within these appointments were: Gas Production and Distribution, Nuclear Energy, Elastomers and Textile fibres. After his career in industry he joined the Chemical Engineering Department, University of Wales Swansea in 1970, specialising in teaching process and plant design, and other engineering practice subjects. The first edition of Chemical Engineering Design (Coulson and Richardson's Vol 6) was published in 1983. Subsequent editions have been published at approximately 5 year intervals. Ray Sinnott retired from full time teaching in 1995 but has maintained close contact with the engineering profession.

Chemical Engineering in Great Britain.

This set of books is a good indication of the British view of what is the discipline of chemical engineering: "Momentum, Heat, and Mass Transfer"; "Separation Processes"; "Chemical Reaction Engineering"; and "Process Design". The first two volumes of "Coulson and Richardson" were initially part of the McGraw-Hill Series in Chemical Engineering in 1954.

About the Author
Mimi Zeiger is the author of Tiny Houses. She founded loud paper, an architecture zine and now blog, in 1997. A Brooklyn-based freelancer, Zeiger writes on art, architecture, and design for a variety of publications including The New York Times, Dwell, Azure, and Architect, where she is a contributing editor. She holds a Masters of Architecture degree from Southern California Institute (SCI-Arc) and a Bachelor of Architecture from Cornell University and has taught at California College of the Arts and at SCI- Arc.

tiny houses, tiny book

For some reason I assumed the trim size of this book would be bigger, like a coffee table book. It's so small that most of the photographs in the book are smaller than they would be if they were printed in a magazine. It struck me as ill-conceived, and it's a shame because the content is interesting and many of the tiny houses depicted are very inspirational, from what I can make out from the tiny pictures.

Interesting material but the floor plan drawings are too small

This book features thirty-three small houses from 75 to 1,147 square feet (7 to 107 square meters) from all over the world, an outdoor storage space for camping, and two portable interiors. The houses range from architect designed to prefabricated to mobile homes to trailers; and they have different levels of comfort, some have both a kitchen and a bath, some have one or the other, and some have neither.

It's interesting to see thirty-three different ways people tackle the challenge of living in a small space, and in that way this book is enjoyable, but trying to make sense of the floor plan drawings is difficult. They are tiny and sometimes indecipherable; often I need a magnifying glass to see clearly and even then I can't tell where the windows, doors, stairs, bath, and kitchen are supposed to be. Sometimes the drawings don't show every floor so it's hard to get an overall picture of the design. Also, few dimensions are given other than the square feet/meters.

Great book, even though, size-wise (7 by 7 inches) its a little on the small side, but its LOADED with great/vivid photos!

Not my favorite

It's okay. The arrangements are very easy to read and play. I think an intermediate student could play a lot of these without any problems. My problem with the book is that it's advertised as "in the style of the great composers" so I didn't think it would be so literal. Many of these songs begin with portions of the composers' famous works. For example, "God Rest Ye Merry, Gentleman" actually begins with a snippet of "Moonlight Sonata" and then it goes into the arrangement for "God Rest Ye Merry, Gentleman". I guess that's what the book was going for but I assumed the songs would be more inspired by the styles of the composers as opposed to actually playing parts of their songs and then adding a christmas song in it. It's just my opinion, but I think a lot of the songs incorporate too much of the composers' original pieces and it overshadows the Christmas tune. Fun and not too taxing

This book is great fun - the composers interweave recognizable famous pieces into Christmas carols in a way that is fun and entertaining. I am the type of piano player who likes to sit for 15 minutes a day and just have fun and make pretty sounds, (maybe 3 years of lessons under my belt) and this book is perfect for me. I also bought the Christmas Suite Collection - Alfred, and it is just too hard; sitting to play that book is a lot of effort and thinking. These pieces, in contrast, I think could sound pretty good by Christmas if I play them through several more times. (And I think my listeners will get a kick out of the surprise tunes embedded in the carols too!)

My new favorite!!

My new favorite!!! I took piano lessons from age 5 to 15, and now I play only a couple times a month, or sometimes only at Christmas. I've never been a great sight-reader, but many simplified songs with a single plunked out note on the bottom hand are too blah. These songs are either in C, one flat, or up to two sharps - only one song has two sharps I think. But they are beautiful and fun to play. "We Three Kings of Orient Are" in the style of Liszt alone is worth the (very reasonable) cost of the book. The arrangements are interesting, they aren't all the same, and they aren't too long - most are two pages, a couple are 3-4. I love it.

Mert Caliskan

Mert Caliskan is a software stylist living in Ankara, Turkey. He has more than 10 years of expertise in software development with the architectural design of Enterprise Java web applications. He is an advocate of open source for software projects such as PrimeFaces and has also been a committer and founder of various others. He is the coauthor of the first edition of this book. He is also the coauthor of Beginning Spring by Wiley Publications. He is the founder of AnkaraJUG, which is the most active JUG in Turkey that has been having monthly meetups for 3 years now. In 2014, he was entitled a Java Champion for his achievements. He is also a Sun Certified Java professional since 2007. He does part-time lecturing at Hacettepe University on enterprise web application architecture and web services. Oleg Varaksin

Oleg Varaksin is a senior software engineer living in the Black Forest, Germany. He is a graduate computer scientist who studied informatics at Russian and German universities. His main occupation and "daily bread" in the last 10 years has consisted of building various web applications based on JSP, JSF, CDI, Spring, web services, REST, jQuery, AngularJS, and HTML5. He has a deep understanding of web usability and accessibility. Oleg is an experienced JSF expert and has been working with the PrimeFaces library since its beginning in 2009. He is also a well-known member of the PrimeFaces community and a cocreator of the PrimeFaces Extensions project on additional JSF components for PrimeFaces. Besides the aforementioned technologies, he has worked as a frontend developer with many other web and JavaScript frameworks―Struts, GWT, Prototype, YUI library, and so on. He also implemented an AJAX framework before all the hype about AJAX began. Oleg normally shares the knowledge he has acquired on his blog at http://ovaraksin.blogspot.de.

A great book !!!

I recommend this book to anyone who is engaged (or plan to be) in implementing a JSF project and wants to take advantage of PrimeFaces' fast-paced development edge. Though PrimeFaces is a powerful library on JSF which allows you to greatly speed up your web project development compared to other technologies, it involves high abstraction so you need a good sidekick (book) in order to beat your project's challenges. In my case, I wanted to get both a grasp on PrimeFaces and also a step-by-step walk-through on how to solve some complex situations (Chapter 10 Advanced Use Cases: a MUST !!!). Chapter 5 clearly explains essentials such as: sorting, listing, and visualizing data by using data iteration components. The book's GitHub allows you to build and run its projects in a snap of finger all at once ! If you actually want to take full advantage of this book you need to have some understanding on JSF, jQuery, CSS, and HTML.

Excellent book.

Excellent book... much more polished than the first edition,
and a real-must for any PrimeFaces developer.

If you are already a PrimeFaces developer, the Chapter 11 with Advanced use cases is extremely useful.
It is basically a compilation of the most frequent problems and challenges discussed in the PrimeFaces Forum,
so you don't need to spend hours browsing the forum looking for solutions.

I found one drawback in this second edition though...
In the first edition, there was a chapter about how to extend PrimeFaces with your own components.
However the second edition is missing such a chapter... which I think would still be useful, specially for PF 5.x

In any case, this is a must book for any PrimeFaces developer.

Looking for the third edition, hopefully with more challenging Advance Use Cases ...!

Must have for Primefaces user

The first chapter starts with how to setup PrimeFaces and the basics, how the PrimeFaces AJAX mechanism works and the internationalization configuration. The next chapter show how to configure, change and create new themes with jQuery themeroller and css. The next chapters group the PrimeFaces components into specific topics. Inputs like input fields (with and without auto completion), spinner, slider and editor components. Grouping elements with PrimeFaces grid system and panels. How to present and visualize data with tables, charts and maps. Every topic with ready to use recipes.

In my opinion this book is an excellent and practical book which will help you to solve a lot of common problems.
